Oriental Photographs When in 1909, the renowned British photographer Sir Edward Linley Sambourne decided to publish a collection of photographs shot over a period of 25 years, it was no surprise that he called it "Oriental Photographs". The book was the first major publication for the printing firm of his wife's uncle and was an immediate success. Some time later, in order to continue their collaboration, Mrs. Sidney Lee suggested that they start their own publishing company. The beginning of this venture also saw the birth of the partnership which existed between her nephew Christopher Johnston and Serjeant-Major Nesbitt Cook from 1911 until 1927. It is within this happy framework that Starley Art Studio came into being; a company which has been synonymous for fine quality reproduction of rare prints dating back to the 19th Century up until today.
